Our fund raising campaign aimed at creating awareness and building a school for learners diagnosed with learning disorders specifically ADD/ADHD living in Johannesburg ghettos. Our ghettos have a large number of poor households where parents cannot afford private schooling for their children with learning disorders and the State provided schools have 45 or more children per class due to overcrowding and children with learning disabilities need classes with smaller numbers
In the Joburg Metro townships namely Cosmo City, Zandspruit, Muldersdrift, Diepsloot and Honeydew which are adjacent to each other and with a population of 2 million people there are no special needs schools, public school system cannot cater for children with learning disabilities due to over crowding. Additionally parents and teachers in this area do not understand the children's diagnosis resulting in the children being labeled as slow learners or having an attitude towards learning.
The current dropout rate in our township schools is alarming high, South African National Statistics shows that on average only 30% of grade 1 learners complete schooling in the set 12 year period and achieve a high schooling diploma. We are planning to build a Primary School and a Technical High School that will understand and cater to the children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD needs, in an area closer to their homes and that will be affordable for their parents/guardians.
We are aiming to groom our children with learning disabilities to become responsible, hard working adults and to maximize their potential for a successful future. Educate and promote awareness in society at large about learning disorders. To provide counseling and advise to families with children diagnosed with learning disorders
