In 2017, Keeping It Real (KIR) Foundation adopted 4 Primary Schools in Northern Nigeria that had been affected by the Boko Haram Insurgency. A major problem that the schools had was lack of educational materials especially textbooks. One of the schools is CDM Primary School Lila in the remote village of Mubi Hills in Adamawa State. The school had not gotten textbooks in almost seven years, because the parents of the pupils are peasant farmers who despite the backbreaking work of farming in the rocky hills of Mubi can barely get enough to pay the school fees, so textbooks was a luxury they could not afford. Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Unfortunately, not all people have access to free or affordable education, especially children who live in poor communities in developing countries like Nigeria.
According to the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), lack of learning materials is the 4th barrier to education. Thanks to the commitment and investment of our GlobalGiving donors, Keeping It Real Foundation in partnership with the Parents Teachers Association of the School, set up a library for the pupils; so that the pupils can have access to as many books as they need. Godiya and Dan are the first generation in their families to go to school, their parents are peasant farmers and cannot afford textbooks for their children. Textbooks improve the performance of children in schools and helps them to understand the world around them better. Where learners do not have access to books in their own homes, textbooks in the schools can potentially remedy this educational barrier. Thanks to our donors, Godiya, Dan and their 270 classmates now have access to textbooks.
However, we still need $30, 922 to ensure that children like Godiya and Dan and their friends continue their education and follow their dreams. CDM Primary School Lainde still needs flooring, windows, desks, CDM Secondary School Lila needs solar panels for their computers, more laptops and all the schools need educational materials (writing materials, textbooks and storybooks). Kindly consider becoming a recurring donor and donate to our project; https://www.GlobalGiving.org/projects/educate-270-children-in-northern-nigeria/. Please encourage your friends, family, and colleagues so that we can invest in more children like Godiya and Dan and their 270 Schoolmates especially in this Covid-19 season to give them a foundation for their future and dreams!
