Dear Donors, Friends and Well-wishers of The Association of People with Disability (APD).
We are glad to submit to you the quarterly report of our Education Program for Children with Disability.
Thanks to GlobalGiving community for your generous support for educating the children with disability. The donation raised through GlobalGiving website helped us to educate 29 children in SIS. All these children were provided with mid-day meals, books, uniforms, healthcare, transportation, Hearing aids and special coaching supplement. Their medical rehabilitation, an integral part of their development, is ensured through regular medical check ups, physiotherapy and use of mobility aids.
The Education Programme at APD aims at promoting inclusive education through focused institutional and district programs and networking with government agencies, NGOs, special and mainstream schools
The Shradhanjali Integrated School (SIS) of APD has 180 children on roll, for the Academic Year 2012-2013. These children are from under privileged segment .The school aims in helping these children join mainstream schools after giving the support required. This is a day school and we have two buses that pick up children every morning and drops them back home. The focus at SIS is on activity-oriented learning. The school offers a good resource center and library. Co – curricular activities like painting, quiz competitions, sports, cultural festivals, and arts and crafts ensure all round development.

Key Highlights for the month of January to May 2014.
On the second of January, the SIS school reopened after the December Holidays. The students took part in a number of activities as mentioned in the report below.
On 10th January, a staff trip was organized from APD to Mysore- Tipu Sultan palace, and Balmuri falls. The school celebrated Makara Snakranthi / Pongal in the school campus on the 16th. Pongal was prepared in the traditional way with the active participation of the students. The following day, 53 Students of classes V to VII along with 3 staff members were taken to Lumbini gardens, Hebbal as a part of their curriculum. On 19th of January 4 students attended a program at the Lion’s Club. The Lions club donated aids, appliances and money for their education. Students of classes I and II were taken to Lumbini gardens, Hebbal as a part of their curriculum. (38 students & 3staff).
The Nirmaya meeting, which took place on 21st, was organized for the parents for the renewal of their registration to get scholarship from Government.The meeting was organized by Advocacy department. The meeting was addressed by Mrs. Usha. A parent meeting was then organized by the therapy department. The program was organized to explain how to train their kids at home and the uses of aids and appliances.
On 24th, Students of classes III and IV were taken to Lumbini Gardens, Hebbal as a part of their curriculum. (41 students & 4 staff). From 29th to 31st a Residential staff training was organized by Mr. Ramakrishna on “Team Building” at “The Bangalore Marthoma Centre”, Devanahalli. 23 staff members attended the training.
On the 2nd of February 17 members from the Alumni Group along with one staff attended a programme at Tulips resort. Forty Students along with 5 staff from preparatory and nursery visited Lumbini gardens. On the 22nd School support programme meeting was held for class VII students along with their parents. As a part of National Science day celebration, a science and art exhibition was organized on 28th.
From 3rd to 5th an art camp was held by Mr. John Devraj. The camp helped the students to learn the basic of drawing and painting. The children were given practice to paint on a huge canvas which was later displayed in the school. The interactive board of TATA Edge class was inaugurated by Mrs. Latha .C Vice President –Function and Software development BOSCH on 13th. The interactive board helps the students in their learning process. The final assessments for the students started on the 20th. On 24th a parent meeting was organized by the therapy department. The program was organized to explain how to help the students with spinal bifida in daily activities. At the end of the month a farewell was organized for the VII Standard students. Various games were organized as part of the programme.
In the first week training on stress management was given to the teachers by Dr. Sridhar, a Counsellor. On 10th the results for the academic year 2013-14 were announced. The day is observed as Prathibha Day. An alumnus, Dr. Arun was the chief guest of the day. The best students were awarded. A staff outing was organized to Kaiwara, Kailasgiri and Anandashrama Chintamnai was organised on the 12th. From the 13th onwards summer vacation began.
From the 1st onwards the admission process started for the next academic year. Throughout the rest of the month a number of teacher training programs took place. Teachers were trained for the usage of Interactive board by Mrs. Vandana, Coordinator TATA. Also, a Training was given for the implementation of CCE (Continuous and comprehensive Evaluation) by Mrs. Padma, Principal, SIS. Towards the end of the month, Mrs. Usha and Mrs. Kripa gave an orientation on the use of sign language in the classroom.
