SIS Annual day
Dear Donors, Friends and Well-wishers of The Association of People with Disability (APD).
We are glad to submit to you the quarterly report of our Education Program for Children with Disability.
Thanks to GlobalGiving community for your generous support for educating the children with disability. The donation raised through GlobalGiving website helped us to educate 29 children in SIS. All these children were provided with mid-day meals, books, uniforms, healthcare, transportation, Hearing aids and special coaching supplement. Their medical rehabilitation, an integral part of their development, is ensured through regular medical check ups, physiotherapy and use of mobility aids.
The Education Programme at APD aims at promoting inclusive education through focused institutional and district programs and networking with government agencies, NGOs, special and mainstream schools
The Shradhanjali Integrated School (SIS) of APD has 180 children on roll, for the Academic Year 2012-2013. These children are from under privileged segment .The school aims in helping these children join mainstream schools after giving the support required. This is a day school and we have two buses that pick up children every morning and drops them back home. The focus at SIS is on activity-oriented learning. The school offers a good resource center and library. Co – curricular activities like painting, quiz competitions, sports, cultural festivals, and arts and crafts ensure all round development.
Some of the major activities during the last three months are given below for your kind information.
Key Highlights for the month of November, December and January .
During the month of November 2013 , our students took part in a number of cultural competitions and drama activities. A report of the same is given below.
On the 7th of November, students participated in a Pot painting and Terracotta Painting competition, conducted by the “Rangoli” organization. A special mention is to be made of the students of standard three, who participated very enthusiastically. The organization organized a similar competition for students of class 4 on the 21st of the month titled the “Rangoli Metro” competition.
From the 9th to the 13th, students participated in Sambav, an international event for art held in in Delhi. Out of the 21 participating countries, students of APD stood in the first place.
On the 16th of November, 20 Students from different classes also participated in another art competition at the Royal Orchid International Hotel, at which they got prizes of appreciation.
10 students from different classes participated in the Rock Expo, a drawing and dance competition on 23rd of the month. Out of the 12 participating NGOs, our children were recognized as the best performers and received a medal and a certificate each.
The students of APD also put up a performance on child problems on the 9th and 10th of the month, and this was aired on Karnataka Doordarshan TV channel.
On the 18th and 19th of the month, students participated in the shooting of a video based on the national anthem for the hearing impaired. The video taught viewers how to sign the national anthem, and was created by the hearing impaired students.
On the 9th of the month, the school held alumni get together with 40 alumni students and 7 teachers. At the meet, Mrs. Usha, Director Education and students have put forward the idea of the formation of a Disability Club formation.
On the 3rd of December, the students of SIS got a check-up done by the cardiology department of MS Ramaiah Hospital. 154 children were checked and 15 children were given follow-up treatment.
Session on Sources of energy
On the 4th of December, volunteers from Intel gave a group of 20 children a talk on the sources of energy.
On the 21st of December, volunteers from Accenture supported APD in throwing the children a Christmas party. There was music and games for the children. A bonfire was also arranged for them at 6.30 p.m.
The Annual Day Celebration was organized on the 23rd of December. Mr. Daniel (Film artist) and Mr. Vipin Labroo (Secretary, Rotary Club) were the chief guests for the function. The SIS staff and children participated very enthusiastically and made the celebration a grand success.
The school closed for winter vacation from the 24th Dec 2013 to 1st of January 2014.
The school reopened on the 2nd of January 2014.
On the 17th of January, the students of classes V to VII (53 students & 3staff) were taken to Lumbini gardens, Hebbal on a field trip.
On the 21st of January, students of classes I to II (38 students & 3staff) were taken to Lumbini gardens, Hebbal as a part of their curriculum.
On the 24th, students of classes III and IV (41 students & 4 staff) were taken to Lumbini gardens, Hebbal as a part of their curriculum.
On the 20th of January, a staff trip was organized by APD to Mysore. The staff visited Tipu Sultan’s palace and Balmuri falls.
On the 23rd of January, a parent meeting was organized by the therapy department. The program was organized to explain methods on how to train children at home and also to explain the uses of aids and appliances.
Residential staff training was organized by Mr. Ramakrishna on “Team Building” at The Bangalore Marthoma Centre, Devanahalli. 23 staff members attended the training from On the 29th Dec,2013 to the 31st Dec,2013 ,.
On the 16th of January, Makara Snakranthi / Pongal were celebrated in the school campus. Pongal was prepared in the traditional way with the active participation of the students.
