Chicuchas Wasi wishes you, your family and extended family a holiday season of laughter, joy and love shared.

We also wish you the joy of giving back and bringing happiness to others less fortunate this year. More than in past years, this holiday seasons began a month earlier with 2 pounds of shopping ads in the local paper and little about all the kind and caring things that people are doing this season. The UN iniated 'Giving Tuesday' to remind us all that this season is about more than shopping. This is a time when ordinary people can make extraordinary gifts of change in the lives of others. Put a smile in your heart now and receive the incredible joy of giving.

Please Donate today and receive year-end tax benefit.

YOU are very much appreciated for all you do for our students. Thank you!

At our Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls, a Christmas celebration is brought to the school by a local tour company, Amazonas, and they bring the spirit of Christmas to the entire school with hot chocolate, sweet panetone bread and a gift for every one of our girls. This is the only gift most will receive. Look at the joy in the faces of each student as they soak up the love being given to them by the staff from Amazonas and from CW. This celebration every year is orgainzed by Efrain Valles, an early CW resident from 27 years ago when CW had a shelter for abandoned children and who is today a responsible family man with 3 children of his own and an active board member of CW Shool for Girls in Cusco. We are very proud of him and the man he has become.

YOU have kept CW school operating. No words can thank you enough. Because you care about education for impoverished and ignored girls, Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls still exists in spite of tough global times. Please do remember us this season with your year-end donation to educate girls whose lives are literally in our hands. Your donation will change their futures. Together we are making a huge difference for them forever. They will not live a life of poverty, oppression and abuse as the women before them have been forced to endure because they had no education and no skills to provide for themselves or their children. We began Chicuchas Wasi in 1987 to provide emergency shelter to children living on the streets and sleeping in doorways. Their mothers also could not read or write and had no work skills and in desperation abandoned their children. My commitment and passion to keep CW going is because I too am a mother and was born to better circumstances for which I am forever grateful.

We have just kicked off our annual fundraiser to meet the school budget for 2014 needed to keep CW doors open, teachers paid and education free to every student.

Please see the PIE image showing how we spend your donations below, and make a Holiday donation to educate our worthy girls. CW is a 501 (c) 3 and can offer the tax benefit for 2013 for all donations.

All of us at Chicuchas Wasi School send our love and gratitude and many blessings to you all.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.
     - From all of us in the Chicuchas Wasi family.

The Thanksgiving holiday in the US for me is not about history, but about the blessings in my life, my family, and friends and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. I see the changes in the faces of our students, bright eyes all lit up today. Twenty-seven years ago the opportunity seized me and I found my true vocation quite by accident, and now I continue to serve our girls -for me it is a labor of love.

The Holiday Season has always filled me with the spirit of the season and a desire to do something - give back to others for my blessings. Family and friends would noisily spill into my modest dining room and squeeze around the table with laughter. This was the true spirit of the season for me; the sharing with others whatever we had; the joy of sharing a meal we all helped to prepare. The children added their excitement to the season in the simplest of ways, a home drawn picture by a 4 year old for someone he loved. Next the tree would be lit and dangling many old memories from long ago. Santa left something for everyone and maybe several for the children.

That said you might be feeling a bit like I do this week. The madness of the shopping frenzy today with more Black Friday & Cyber Monday talk than ever before is too much. There is need all around us, in the news, on TV, and before our eyes. Children are neglected and raising themselves. So the UN initiated a GivingTuesday movement to put giving back into the season. Please spread the word.

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” –Winston Churchill

What are you thankful for? Please ask your friends and family this question. How will you give back this holiday season beginning on Giving Tuesday? CW is a partner in this movement. Please Give to educate girls on Dec. 3, 2013 Giving Tuesday. Here is the link to us:

For most indigenous girls from poor uneducated mothers, the reality is that they will inherit their mother's life, poor and illiterate!

We appreciate your generosity and thank you for gifting education to our girls. You understand this is their key out of poverty and oppression and is something you care about.

Please remember our girls for you holiday giving and tax benefit for 2013.

Blessings to you and your families now and always.

Thank you all so much!!

Your donations have kept CW school open and free to poor rural girls another year.

The CW school was created for these special girls and now with our own primary school completed, we will be able to serve many more girls well into the future.

There is a lot of excitement lately at the school. On Sept 19, CW celebrated 27 years dedicated to raising the quality of life for the children of Cusco, Peru. We have overcome difficult obstacles during those years and today we have our own school where our students are thriving with education - our dream come true.View history at

http://www.chicuchaswasi.org/chicuchaswasi.org/Home.html

The excitement continues as our first 6th grade class prepares to graduate from their beloved CW School in December 2013. It is bittersweet for them and for all the staff and the other students to see them go, but they are well prepared to move on to public high school after 8 years of CW special support and education.

Chicuchas Wasi primary school for Girls was created for girls denied an education because they were born poor girls. We receive girls 4 years old and older into one of two levels of kindergarten, whereupon completion they enter 1st grade and continue through 6th grade. The girl's parents sign a promise document that they will help their daughters to continue through public high school and CW will continue to see that they do and will act as a mentor for the girls.

When these girls arrive at 4 years of age, they are silent, afraid and many speak little or no Spanish (Quechua is their mother tongue.) With the support and encouragement of the older students and teachers they learn Spanish, and slowly begin to feel safe in the CW environment among other girls who live in their reality. Their reality is difficult and many of our girls have unseen wounds that only time and love can heal. The bonding of the girls is a big part of their healing process. Building confidence and self-esteem is another important part. The most important thing at CW is the love freely given by all to all, often felt by our girls for the first time. Parents who themselves were never shown love do not know how to give it, or receive it.
