Kamala is the second girl child in the family. Her mother died last year and her father is blind due to an Immune-deficiency complication. Till last year the family was dependent on the income of the mother. Her elder sister though had an ambition to become a nurse, eloped when she was 15 years old.
Kamala’s mother having married at the age of 14 years wanted her three children to study and secure themselves with a job. But she lost all her hopes when her eldest daughter made the decision of marrying early. Her next hope was on Kamala. When Kamala was doing her 11th standard, her mother committed suicide due to tensed situations at home. The burden of taking care of the family chores, her father and younger brother in addition to her sister’s new born child made it very hard on her. Slowly her father also started putting pressure of getting Kamala also married, as he expressed he cannot support in meeting the educational expenses. During one of the counseling session at Buds of Christ, she expressed the situation.
Buds of Christ, through the education support for orphan girl children from GlobalGiving came forward to support her uniform, note books and study materials. The support has encouraged her father to send her back to school. Now Kamala is in her 12th standard and is getting ready for her public exams that are starting on March 3rd. She plans to join BA (English) literature next academic year.
She aspires to be English teacher and attributes her gratitude to the support from GlobalGiving.
She expressed “I would have been married at 16, but your support has not only kept me in school, but also would make my mother’s dream come true and I would be the first graduate in my family. Thank you Global Giving”
