Harvesting kales
Harvesting kales

Dear Valued Partner:

Thank you for making a difference to school children in rural Kenya. Wtih your support, East African Children's Fund grows nutrient dense vegetables and fruits across 4 school farms in central Kenya. Harvests of kales, spinach, tomatoes, moringa, sweet peppers, carrots, sweet potatoes, onions and cowpeas boost school meals for almost 1,000 school children each day! You make this possible!

Our partner communities in Kenya are struggling through an historic drought, coupled with the negative impacts of COVID and the war in Ukraine. As food prices for staple foods continue to rise, we're working to expand production at the school farms. This includes continued investment in climate smart irrigation solutions.

This week the development community, including UNICEF and GAIN, released research showing that 50% of children and 75% of women worldwide suffer micronutrient deficiencies. These rates are even higher for children in Kenya. Deficiencies in important micronutrients compromise immune systems and hinder children's growth and development, including school performance. Our solution, with your support, is to grow nutrient dense fruits and vegetables for school meals. Your investment in this school farming program ensures that children at our partner schools remain healthy and able to thrive and learn. Thank you!

With sincere gratitude,

East African Children's Fund
