Earthquake Turkey and Syria


After the devastating earthquake in the Turkish-Syrian border area in the night from Sunday to Monday, the situation in the affected region remains unclear. Local authorities say thousands have been killed and millions injured after the earthquake struck and collapsed thousands of buildings. German aid organizations from our alliance Aktion Deutschland Hilft are on site and providing immediate aid. Further emergency aid teams from Germany are being sent to the affected areas.

In order to save as many people as possible, the help of search and rescue troops is particularly important in the first few days after the disaster. The people whose homes have been damaged or destroyed urgently need safe and warm emergency shelters, as well as food, drinking water and medical assistance. Since many hospitals themselves are affected or are overwhelmed, additional medical staff is needed in the regions. Due to the cold temperatures, relief supplies such as blankets, clothing


In the first few days, the focus is on acute emergency aid: in addition to rescue work, medical aid and the distribution of food, drinking water and medicines, emergency shelters are organised.
