Transform lives - take part in giving vulnerable young children an education. Currently less than 10% of children in Timor-Leste receive any type of early childhood education. Your donation will help fund scholarships for low-income children to attend preschool, as well as quality training for local educators. By building strong foundations for the future, this project is an essential part of breaking the cycle of poverty and violence in post-conflict Timor-Leste.
Little emphasis is placed upon the critical early childhood stage of development in Timor-Leste, with less than 10% of children receiving any type of early childhood education. Trauma is common in this post-conflict context, and often leads to displays of violent or aggressive behaviour including child abuse. This harms the cognitive development of children and affects their learning. Children often have difficulty regulating their emotions and behaving in a socially appropriate manner.
This project works with parents and communities to transform negative behavior by providing a stable and supportive environment for children, supporting their emotional, social and intellectual capacities. In 2013 Ba Futuru built the Early Childhood Education Facility, with two classrooms fully equipped with age-appropriate educational equipment. With your support, low-income children will receive scholarships to attend preschool, and educators will be equipped with further knowledge and skills.
Early childhood interventions are more cost-effective and influence a wider range of positive outcomes than those later in life. With approximately 100 educators per year developing skills for providing quality early childhood education, Ba Futuru's project will prepare thousands of children for primary education, improved wellbeing, and increased literacy. Providing support for children at this crucial stage of their development will build strong foundations for their future.
