Challenge

Children of Low-income parents in the Rural Communities miss essential habits for sound upbringing before they are six yrs. Reason, parents are ignorant or have no time to teach their children . They need to learn before school age, simple Hygiene timely, eating habits, being open to parents and reporting injuries timely. Cleanliness of both body and environment. How to escape from danger. The effect these good habits learned at very tender age enhance and make education at a later age meaningful

Solution

There will be 20 centers of 50 children per center. Schools that have nurseries would be chosen. Five care givers will be trained per center. The teaching would be practical. The care givers would receive periodic allowances to enable them to follow up the exercise. it is also necessary to revisit centers after 3 yrs to assess performance and train new comers. Each center would have games equipment fenced round to ward off intruders. Children of age 0-5 will be well prepared before school age.

Long-Term Impact

The selected 20 centers are already permanent and will cater for about 1000 children. The choice of 5 care-givers from the same school will go a long way to strengthening relationship between the centers and the Project. The supervisors will act as field officers and give reports. Rural parents, especially mothers with be comfortable sending their children from age 0-5 to centers and going about their farming or petty trading knowing they are in save hand and coming back later at closing time.
