SCREENP UP
SCREENP UP

We recently visited Uganda in hopes of spreading educating, and bringing SCREEN UP to the people of Uganda.

Screen Up: Uganda is providing breast cancer prevention and education to women in rural parts of Uganda.

Breast cancer has a 50% mortality rate in Uganda, half of the women that get diagnosed die. This stands in contrast to 90% of women in the United States surviving breast cancer. The difference lies in access to early detection! Over 80% of women in Uganda present with late-stage breast cancer, either stage 3 or 4. At late stages, treatment is much more intensive and survival rates go down. Our mission is to change that!

Screen Up Uganda has already conducted an initial survey and outreach campaign contacting over 1200 women. While many had heard of breast cancer, over half didn’t know that self-screening was a useful tool in early recognition. And over 90% said they were interested in attending an event to learn more.

We are currently scheduling a training session with our team on the ground so that they can learn to teach women how to perform self-screenings.

Additionally, we are scheduling screening events with trained medical professionals to perform clinical breast exams as a follow-up to the education.

And finally, we are building a path forward so that if a woman does receive a cancer diagnosis we are there to provide support for them while they get treatment.

Partnerships are the key to the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations, which has the premise of leaving no one behind.

That is why from the HABLA CLARO TOUR we focus during the first quarter of 2022, to empower physical education teachers, this time the beneficiary was PE Teacher Rafael Salas from the Industrial Technical School (E.T.I.) La Victoria in the Municipality José Felix Ribas from Aragua state in Venezuela.

We were able to visit E.T.I. we apply to the E.R.I.C. HABLA CLAO Clinic, benefiting forty students in 4th-year high school. They showed a positive attitude toward discovering new physical skills, and above all, they learned the benefits of a lifestyle of healthy habits as a criterion in education in cancer prevention.

We close the day at the E.T.I. With the donation of the Ultimate School Kit, Professor Salas has the sports equipment to teach Ultimate Frisbee as an alternative sport in the school curriculum.

The partnerships are the key, during this first quarter we continued to support Professor Alexander Martinez at the famous CODAZZI high school in the city of Maracay in the state of Aragua, after two years of the pandemic, classes began in Venezuela semi-face-to-face, we implemented for the second time the Ultimate School Program, this time with 3rd year students (14 -15-year-old) we benefited one hundred and twenty students, they reinforced their knowledge about the values of the sport of flying disc and now they are ready to compete and share their spirit of the game, in his high school and in the future Ultimate School League that we must develop as a sporting event of value and purpose.

Discovering the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle helps you prevent this terrible disease.

To celebrate the pink month on breast cancer awareness since the HABLA CLARO Tour and thanks to the support of the Venezuelan Ultimate community for allowing us to be part of our campaign on cancer prevention education.

We promote the message about Early Recognition is Critical to commemorate the pink month on breast cancer awareness.

This time we collaborate in the organization of the Adrenaline Up Mixed Tournament of Ultimate Frisbee held during the last month of October in the City of Maracay, Venezuela.

For this event we made an informative video about breast cancer awareness, for this we prepared a script and invited thirteen girls Ultimate players to participate in the video, for which it was necessary to invest more than 60 hours of work during production, post-production, and editing of the video "Conmemoración 19 de Octubre mes rosa" which was launched during the world day celebration of breast cancer awareness.

Please enjoy the video:

E.R.I.C. Campaign
E.R.I.C. Campaign

To drive awareness of cancer prevention education from E.R.I.C. We create informative content for youth to learn the importance of self-examination of both the breasts and the testicles, emotional and family support in patients makes a difference and how vaccines win the battle against cancer.

Our campaigns are creative, light, and invite action here some examples:

Self-Exams Save Lives

When caught and treated early, skin cancers are highly curable. And in the early stages of skin cancer development, you’re the one with the best chance to see changes.

What to look for?

• A growth that increases in size and appears pearly, transparent, tan, brown, black, or multicolored.

• A mole, birthmark, or brown spot that increases in size, thickness, changes color or texture or is bigger than a pencil eraser.

• A spot or sore that continues to itch, hurt, crust, scab, or bleed.

• An open sore that does not heal within three weeks.

MONTHLY TESTICULAR SELF-EXAMS

Self-examination of the testes is important for early detection of testicular cancer. The most common method of early detection is performing a monthly exam.

The best time to self-exam is after a warm bath or shower when the scrotal skin is relaxed.

Breast Self-Exam

Breast self-exam, or regularly examining your breasts on your own, can be an important way to find breast cancer early when it’s more likely to be treated successfully.

Here's what you should look for:

• Breasts that are their usual size, shape, and color
• Breasts that are evenly shaped without visible distortion or swelling
If you see any of the following changes, bring them to your doctor's attention:
• Dimpling, puckering or bulging of the skin
• A nipple that has changed position or an inverted nipple (pushed inward instead of sticking out)
• Redness, soreness, rash, or swelling

Friendship and cancer.

Today, most people with cancer are treated as outpatients, meaning they don’t have to stay in the hospital.

During this time, they often need help, support, and encouragement.

Many studies have found that cancer survivors with strong emotional support tend to better adjust to the changes cancer brings, have a more positive outlook, and often report better quality of life.

Research has shown that people with cancer need support from friends. You can make a big difference in the life of someone with cancer.

Are there vaccines that prevent cancer?

There are vaccines that can prevent healthy people from getting certain cancers caused by viruses.

Like vaccines for chickenpox or the flu, these vaccines protect the body from these viruses.

This type of vaccine will only work if a person gets the vaccine before they are infected with the virus.

Thank you very much for your support and generosity it's time to be a hero support the promotion of the E.R.I.C.'s message.
