Summary

The Campaign for drug abuse will engage approximately 300,000 youth in Nigeria, 11 to 16 years of age, to reduce their involvement in high-risk and criminal behaviour. The project is based on Life Skills Training program with additional cultural and recreational components. The Skills Training program is a school-based prevention program that targets drug abuse among youth. It helps youth build the knowledge and skills they need to resist peer pressure and will also strengthen positive attitude

Challenge

Drug abuse problems - the myriad repercussions to substance addiction - are typically not high on the list of considerations when someone begins using drugs. Some people become addicted to drugs only after they begin a period of experimentation - they might start using because they want to experience the thrill of something new, or because they want to fit in with friends who are also using. drug abuse problema1s are family and social issues mental and behavioral issues long term health issues

Solution

drug abuse effects can be physical, mental and emotional. Substance abuse rehab or treatment can help put a stop to the harm that drugs exact on the user. For drug or alcohol abuse problems it is recommended that a clinical evaluation be made to determine the best form of treatment. Treatment may take place in an inpatient rehab or in an outpatient setting. These project is aimed at creating awareness to youths on drug abuse,as well as exposing addicted children to various remedy measures

Long-Term Impact

Drug abuse and addiction often occur alongside mental illness. This can be explained by the fact that the risk factors for both are similar, but there is also evidence that drug abuse can trigger, contribute to, or worsen mental health conditions. According to statistics, people who abuse drugs are twice as likely to struggle with mood disorders, like depression, or anxiety disorders, the project will address these problems through shared advocacy and campaign/ awareness on drug abuse
