For Empowerment of Disadvantaged Women in South Korea

Non-profit organization Open Closet rents donated suits to young jobseekers at a minimum cost. All jobseekers can be the beneficiaries of our service, but we prepared a project for unemployed women in Korea this time. In the male-dominated society of South Korea, Korean women must overcome sexual discrimination when they find jobs. Cosmetics company Bobbi Brown Korea collaborated with us for helping them.

Our project has been approved to be on GlobalGiving on March 9. Since the registration, 5 donors have contributed 900 dollars. We provided female job interviewees with ‘Pretty Powerful Make-up classes’, cooperating with Bobbi Brown Korea for 4 months. Along with the make-up lesson, we invited some people to lecture on career success.

- The lecturers were…
1st lecture: Tae-won Kim, who is a Manager at Google and a symbol of passion for Korean young people
2nd lecture: Mi-jin Kim, who is in charge of the career development in Global HR
3rd lecture: Hyeona Lee, who started bodybuilding at the age of 45 and won the first prize

- The attendees were…
1st lecture: Female university students who graduate next year
2nd lecture: Female jobseekers wandering for their dream
3rd lecture: Homemakers who decided to make a fresh start but lost their confidence in reality

Our lessons were planned to be three times, and two of them were successfully finished. Totally 100 women jobseekers participated in our project until now(Up to the second lesson, third lesson was held on July 10).

We also made an interview make-up video for female jobseeker and distributed it through QR codes placed inside the delivery boxes containing rented goods and Youtube site.

- Reference:

732 young jobseekers used our sharing service from March to July 5(up to the present). Among these, 132 people succeeded in getting jobs. 900 dollars we received are yet not used. It will used for female late-jobseekers, who are finding jobs late for their age, by consulting and making programs to restore their confidence.

Thank you very much for your helps and considerations.
