The children enjoying a healthy meal
The children enjoying a healthy meal

Hello GlobalGiving family,

From the recent funds received, we have been able to do the following activities:

  1. The school feeding program. The funds have continued to help provide nutritious school meals for the children; helping us to purchase food and spices such as beans, rice, tomatoes, onions, curry powder and cooking oil. Good Neighbors, a new organization that has begun providing support to the Hammerslag School also donated food supplies that came as a huge relief, since we have been struggling with a lack of adequate funds to sustain the school feeding program. At the school, children get three meals a day, break, lunch and supper. This requires 10 kgs of maize and  5 kgs of beans daily, Monday to Sunday. The program is very expensive and supports more than 100 vulnerable orphaned children, both boarding and day scholars. Cost estimates are approximately 750USD per term. We are struggling to meet this demand with current donations, but are confident with your support that we can continue to provide quality food and education for these children.
  2. Children medical expenses. Funds have helped support the general health of the children and cover the medical bills and medication costs for sick boarding students. Due to continued rainfall this term, there has been an increase of malaria and other illnesses. Mosquito nets, sleeping mats, and blankets purchased with donations have helped to keep children warm and protected. Unfortunately, many children are still sleeping without adequate patting or netting, and we hope to use future donations to offer safe and comfortable bedding to all children housed at the school.  Lastly, the money helped buy washing basins, buckets and Jerri cans which children use to collect water for kitchen use and personal use.
  3. Office administration materials. Additionally, we have managed to purchase a new table for the head teachers use, new student curricular books, and revised editions for the teachers.
  4. School supplies. We have also bought exercise books, pens, and pencils for the children to use in the classroom. Fortunately, this term we got Good Neighbors to donate books to 20 orphans in our school, which helped to reduce the cost. We do not know if this help will continue next term, so will need to increase our fundraising initiatives or find another sponsorship.

As always, we thank you kindly for your donations. The Hammerslag School Uganda would not have made it this far without your support. We are still struggling financially and are lacking in adequate classrooms for Primary Five, Six and Seven students, learning supplies, uniforms, bedding, and food. Please share our story with your friends and family so that we can continue to serve the orphaned and vulnerable children of Pallisa.

Sincerely,

Charles Olupot

 Hello GlobalGiving family,

Thanks to your generous donations over the past three months, we have been able to do the following activities:

  1. We purchased 200 kgs of corn, 100 kgs of beans and a large basin of silverfish, which helps us to provide children and teachers porridge for breakfast, lunch and supper for 20 orphans and children during this school term. These children include those with no parents, as well as those children taken in from surrounding areas that were living in the slums with a struggling single parent.
  2. We also bought 50 cups, 20 plastic plates, a new large saucepan, 30+ liters of water to prepare porridge for the children. We currently have 65 children, 6 teachers, and 4 support staff eating our meals.
  3. To support children that are sleeping at the school, we were able to buy 10 mats, [we could not afford to buy mattresses at this time]. We are currently accommodating them in one of the blocks we had built to use as a school office. The children are happy in their new home, especially for those that have a secure home and access to schooling for the very first time.
  4. Funds have been used to purchase much-needed office stationary and teacher learning materials that are currently being used in the classrooms. This includes text books for use in all five classrooms (nursery and primary). We bought 50 copies of the Primary School Curriculum for all subjects: English, mathematics, science, religion, education, physical education, and social studies. Other learning materials include a New Oxford Dictionary, life skills booklets, IT for schools and English story books for all the classrooms. We are still lacking balls or play materials for the children, but hope to raise funds to purchase these soon.
  5. Purchased 10 more school desks for the nursery class, as the children were previously sitting on the ground. Lastly, we managed to buy school uniforms, including shoes for the 20 orphaned children, as well as provide them with 6 exercise books, pens, and pencils.

As always, it is our hope to continue to raise funds to buy additional learning supplies, play materials, mattresses and bedding, and food to continue to feed students and staff. As of now, nursery children and primary level five students do not have physical classrooms to study from; but rather share classrooms with primary one and four children. Therefore, primary six and seven classrooms need to be constructed next year to accommodate new students. We are confident that we will achieve these goals and supply these children with the education and opportunity they deserve.

We appreciate all the support the school has continued to receive from you and your friends!

Sincerely,

Charles Olupot

To all Our Donors:

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous decision of selecting and donating to our project. http://goto.gg/21343

SHARE used the funds raised to build permanent classrooms for our most marginalized orphan and vulnerable children.

The funds have also been utilized to provide the children with new school uniform, purchased a few teaching materials to improve classroom environment, and children’s literacy skills and teachers work made easy.

Moreover, the raised amount also enabled us to put new strong metallic windows and doors in the newly built classroom, desks for the students to seat on and teachers chairs, cement floors to all the new classrooms and teachers pre room. Because of this great change in our classroom environment more needy children have come to join the school this year 2017.

We all appreciate your generous donations towards the cause. and Thank you for helping SHARE PROJECT reach their goal of creating conducive learning environment, classrooms  for orphan and vulnerable kids to learn!

We were delight and stay strong that the children deserve such steps to access their rights. We are ready to meet our goal with passion and conviction. We appreciate your action and are committed to utilize the funds raised in its best.

It is with profound gratitude that I, on behalf of management and staff of SHARE PROJECT, share our 2016 accomplishments with you and look forward to the New Year 2017.

Your donations have gone a long way in improving the lives of children and their communities in Pallisa, Uganda. The funds allowed us to build additional 2 new classroom block, increase school attendance, and continue working on our children's learning environment.

Education

The Education interventions: Saw 80% children attending school regularly, 70% of orphan children were not able to have lunch at school for all the school terms as well as pay tuition. with the construction of more two new classrooms, the school population is expected to increase this new term 2017 to about 200 children total. There is a lot of excitement about the good facilities so put in place.

The school targets vulnerable children 3-12 years aiming to improve literacy and basic life skills. We work with their guardians, care takers and the general community to create a conducive learning environment that cares to support orphan and vulnerable children both in and out of school.

Our Promise: Everything to the Community-

We use your donations responsibly. We pledge to ensure that 90% of the funds are spent directly on supporting needy rural / orphan child’s education by construction basic facilities, purchase of school uniform, exercise books, pay for their meals and pay part of their tuition costs so as to keep them coming to school to complete their first primary education cycle.

"Am glad our school has now grown with a total of 4 new classrooms so far constructed 2014/2015. Am also glad to inform you that other GlobalGiving donors like you donated towards purchase of 5 teachers chairs, 30 school desks, 11 windows, 3 doors, constructed one teachers study room and much more, including last terms school meals for all kids. We are happy for this generosity from you all.

With your support this year 2017, Our project will be able to buy new school uniforms, shoes and school bags for the kids, we had also hoped to buy 50 mattresses for the kids as well as hold a Christmas party in the village for the children to celebrate together with their friends and families, but we did not manage to get you donating. our children have celebrated Christmas with no gift such a gift. However when you visit our projects on GlobalGiving, am sure you will be happy to support us.

School kitchen and dining construction work will begin only when we get your support; we have a plan to connect electricity and piped water to the school with your support any time of the year 2017.

We have a plan to train older girl children on how to make their own sanitary pads using locally available materials, we no longer buy pads but we make them due to lack of enough funds to support all their needs. Most rural poor girls come to school with no underwear, it’s a reality and we need to sponsor them to keep at school. When periods start, they stay away from school. Miss out classes / lessons. – Drop out of school eventually.

Thank you once again for your help and congratulations to those projects that have had great achievements.

Please consider donating again to continue providing rural needy children in Pallisa Uganda studying at the Hammerslag school with a healthier, happier, safer, and more successful life.

Dearest ADR supporters,

May I first extend my sincere apologies for the delay in submitting our quarterly report. We have had limited Internet access in Pallisa during the election period and have been incredibly busy keeping up with construction of the school.

We have made significant improvements since our last update including installing new windows and doors on two of the classrooms and the school kitchen. In addition, we have been able to lay cement floors in the classrooms, toilet and kitchen. Progress has been made on the grounds surrounding the school as well, with the teachers, students and community members working hard to improve the conditions for study.

To show-off our progress so far, we recently had one of the missionaries working in Pallisa visit the school. She was very excited to see how the funds contributed by our generous donors had improved our conditions. We also had a school inspector visit us, who expressed similar sentiments and gratitude that such development was happening in his country.

Despite these gradual improvements, we are still in need of three doors for the toilet, five windows, school desks and seats for the teachers and students. In order to accommodate all 150 students, we will need to build 30 more desks and buy 20 bags of cement to plaster the walls.  It is our hope that we might raise a little more than $1,000 USD by the end of March, 2016 to pay for these materials and complete the structure before the rainy season sets in.

Class has started for the new term, and the children remain hopeful that we will complete the necessary structures so that they can study in healthy, protected classrooms. Please help spread the word and share our project, so that we might complete our school and offer these children a better future!

Thank you from everyone at ADR for your continued generosity and support.

Sincerely,

-Charles Olupot
