Inauguration of Relief distribution
Inauguration of Relief distribution

People living near Sundarbans coastal areas of Bangladesh are being impacted because of the Cyclone Amphan and COVID-19. They have little or no access to basic food supplies and other fundamental necessity. They had been already affected by loss of jobs, bad economy and being unable to move around because of the Covid-19. On May 20, 2020, the cyclone "Amphan" hit the Sundarbans area, and 500+ people have lost their homes and have taken shelter in our center. They are not able to afford their food due to no way to work, and cyclone has made a pretty bad damage to the area. Their livelihood has come under question and they are worried.

Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS); a community based, non government, non political and development organization is trying to raise fund from GlobalGiving in order to support those vulnerable and poor communities of Sundarbans coastal region. Goal of the project is $65,000 and so far $ 5,747 has been raised.

On 8 October 2020, BEDS has distributed relief items (Rice, Lentils, Oil, Salt, Soap and Mask) among 150 Sundarbans resource harvesters’ families of Satkhira district. Before the relief distribution ceremony, a total of 1500 mangroves have been planted on the Kultoli riverbank. After that the relief distribution activity took place at the Cyclone Shelter and Training Center established by BEDS at Mathurapur Jelley Polly (fishing village) of Munshigonj union under Shyamnagar sub district of Satkhira district of Bangladesh.

We therefore want to give our heartiest thanks to the donors for their support and request all our well wishers to stay beside us for assisting the vulnerable communities to lead a better life.
