Bangladesh is a disaster prone south Asian country. This country is venerable to natural disasters due to its geographic location. Sundarbans coastal region is the front line of global climate change. Natural disasters occur every now and then here and people have to fight for their life and livelihoods. The common natural disasters of the country are tropical cyclone, flood, drought, thunder, erratic rainfall etc.
Every year, there is natural disaster. But Sundarbans coastal communities are very poor. So, during after disaster period, they have to suffer a lot. These marginalized people usually don’t have enough food and other emergency facilities during disaster time. Bangladesh Environment and development Society (BEDS) has established a multi purposed useable Cyclone shelter in the Sundarbans coastal region of Bangladesh for the safety of the coastal villagers. This shelter is situated in Mathurapur village, under Munshigonj union of Satkhira district of Bangladesh. BEDS also established an emergency fund for the villagers. We opened a bank account for that fund. But at the time of last two massive natural disasters (Cyclone Fani and Bulbul), we spent the entire fund (money) for their emergency support especially for food. So, now we are considering raising fund for that emergency fund that has been already established.
Now BEDS is trying to raise fund for disaster victimized people of Bangladesh through GlobalGiving platform. Total target for the grant is 100,000 $.
So, we are requesting to the global donors to help us so that we can help the underprivileged coastal communities of Bangladesh.
