This project is aimed at providing accommodation to adolescent girl victims of sex/Human Trafficking and those of them rescued from various abusive environment within Enugu, South Eastern Nigeria. We propose to provide them with all the resources necessary for their healing, recuperation, rehabilitation and re-integration back into the society including food, shelter, medical care, skill training, education, spirituality, psycho-therapy, home tracing, etc.
In South-East Nigeria, during the COVID-19 lockdown, there was a high rise in reported cases of abuse especially towards Girls aged 3-19. Alongside sexual abuse is the rampant child physical abuse (including ironing of children's bodies, sending them out late, and extreme body mutilation) While we did our best to rescue these young girls, we realized there was nowhere to keep them temporarily until their cases were resolved. Therefore, the major problem is having no shelter or safe home
Ihuoma Girls Care and Support Initiative is already dedicated to fighting against Gender Based Violence and Marginalization. The success of the project will mean that we have provided a safe haven and rehabilitation center for girl victims of abuse which is very rare and scarce in the south east. Considering our professionalism, it will make a more effective and sustainable impact in fighting against GBV as well as creating more avenues for Girl children to be safe and free in Enugu.
The potential long-term of this project would be * Expansion of the shelter to other states in the South East of Nigeria to house more girl victims of abuse. * The training, rehabilitation and re-integration of over 50 girls annually. * 50% increase in collaboration with other Gender Based Organizations annually to fight for a sustainable and equal society
