In Kenya, emphasis is put on formal education as a measure of success and not art. Therefore, children who have talents miss out on opportunity to express and to develop their talents, and especially rural areas are totally neglected. In this regards we started After School Art Project to provide opportunities to kids to express themselves through drawing, painting, music and nurture talents as a profession.
The problem is that no opportunities or space for children to play and also to explore their inborn talents which could be a lifeline for a better future given the chance. Formal education system does not put emphasis on areas such as talents but focuses only on formal education as a measure of success in life. Therefore the Sophia Foundation an opportunity where children can express themselves, develop and nurture talents.
The project provides an opportunity and space children can express, explore, develop and nurture their talents through after school art project for a better future. This will go a long the way to nurture and talents and secure livelihoods for themselves and change or improve living standards of their own community.
Potential long term impact for this is that a number of children are expected to be artist in the future and secure their future for a better life. Also these children are also expected to give back to the community and improve the living standards of their families and community at large. It's expected that over 10.000 community members will benefit from this project.
