The last three months have gone well for Alive & Kicking, as we strive to provide a lasting sporting legacy for African countries following the World Cup. The millionaire footballers, and global media attention that came with them, have now departed from the continent, but we continue to produce fair wage balls in Kenya and Zambia to be distributed to children's projects across Africa. In the last three months our stitching centres have produced over 14,000 balls, and we continue to provide sustainable employment to 150 local people.
Of particular note has been the development of a sound ball by our production team in Kenya. This ball, which rattles as it moves, is made by gluing 'sound boxes' to the inside of leather panels. It has been designed for use by visually impaired children and was inspired by Henry Wanyoike, Kenya's famous visually impaired marathon runner. A picture showing how the ball is made can be seen below.
We would also like to point you towards some press coverage Alive & Kicking had received, where one of disabled Zambian stitchers was featured in a UK newspaper. You can view more of our press coverage on the In the Press section of our website.
Alive & Kicking would like to thank everybody who has donated to us recently - it really is appreciated!
