Alive & Kicking has reached important milestones in the last 6 months. Through generous ball donations from our supporters the World Cup month has seen Alive & Kicking stitch its 300,000th ball and donate its 200,000th ball to children in Africa since production started in 2004.
3,500 Alive & Kicking balls have been donated this year so far by individuals from across the world. These balls have been distributed in Africa to Special Olympics programmes which provide training and competitive opportunities for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Your support has enabled those amongst the most excluded in society in Africa to benefit from taking part in football games using a ball made in Africa, for them. What’s more, because the balls were hand stitched in our stitching centres in Kenya and Zambia, every ball donated has also helped an adult in Africa to support themselves and their family.
This project aims to raise enough money from individuals in the UK and West to make and donate 12,000 balls in one year. We thank you for your support for helping us so far. We still, however, have a long way to go, and encourage you to spread the word about our work. Supporting us not only gives children in Africa the chance to play with health–messaged balls, it also provides a route out of poverty for 150 adults and their families in the poorest communities in the world.
