2014 was a hugely successful year for Alive & Kicking and we have big plans to ensure that we continue that progress into the New Year. Our stitching centres in Nairobi, Lusaka and Accra continue to produce over 5,000 footballs a month; providing over 130 people with stainable employment while providing quality sports balls disadvantaged children with quality sports balls. We’ve also launched some exciting initiatives that will help us improve the health and quality of life of disadvantaged young people in our countries of operation.
ICAP Charity Day
ICAP’s annual charity day enjoyed another remarkably successful year – and this time Alive & Kicking was at the heart of the action. The biggest single fundraising event in the City of London sees ICAP donate the commissions and fees from their entire day’s trading to a range of worthy causes. A host of celebrities came down on the day to support the traders, seal some deals and soak up the atmosphere. We were delighted to have been joined by a wonderful bunch of VIPs who ensured it was a truly memorable day for everyone involved. £8m was raised worldwide during the day, with Alive & Kicking’s portion set to be used for sports-based health education work in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana throughout the year.
Tornado
Alive & Kicking Ghana has launched a new ball in partnership with former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah – The Tornado. The first ball of its kind, The Tornado really is made in Ghana, by Ghana, for Ghana. All materials that go into making the ball are sourced locally and the balls are then stitched at our workshop in Accra. From each ball sold, five cedis go directly to the Stephen Appiah Foundation to support their own charitable activities. The Tornado ball has generated great excitement since its launch, being featured in much of the local media, and we look forward to seeing The Tornado reaching school playground and sports pitches across Ghana throughout the year.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us last year and we look forward to bringing you more updates throughout 2015.
