2014 has been an exciting year so far at Alive and Kicking. Our stitching centres in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana continue to produce over 5,000 footballs a month; creating sustainable employment for over 130 people while providing disadvantaged children with quality sports balls. We’ve also engaged in some great partnerships that will help us improve the health and quality of life of disadvantaged young people.
Alive & Kicking set to benefit from ICAP Charity Day
The ICAP Charity Day is fast approaching. 3 December will see the UK-based broker donate all its worldwide revenues and commissions to a range of charitable causes. A major event in London’s financial and fundraising calendars, a host of A-list celebrities will join ICAP staff in generating as much income for charity as possible. The partnership with ICAP will allow Alive & Kicking to run sports-based health education projects in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana in 2015.
Social Enterprise UK Recognition
Alive & Kicking has been nominated for the 2014 UK Social Enterprise Awards, which will be held in London on 26 November. Shortlisted in the ‘Consumer Facing Social Enterprise’ category, A&K faces stiff competition from the fantastic social enterprises Belu Water, Divine Chocolate, The House of St Barnabas and Two Fingers Brewing.
Zambia Roadshow final report
The final report of the 2014 Alive & Kicking Zambia Roadshow of Lusaka Province is now available to view online. The Roadshow, which visited the towns of Kafue and Chongwe as well as the Lusaka city districts of Chipata and Munali, trained 78 local teachers and coaches in sports-based HIV education techniques. These coaches are now able to disseminate vital HIV information to young people in their communities on a regular and ongoing basis. This approach allows local people to tackle the most pressing health and social issue in their community in a sustainable and impactful way. The roadshow also saw 57 local teams take part in football and netball tournaments, and 425 people receive HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last three months and we look forward to bringing you another update early next year.
