Alive & Kicking has gone from strength to strength in 2012. The Kenyan and Zambian stitching centres continue to produce quality sports balls, generating employment for over 120 people. Alive & Kicking’s UK retail presence in John Lewis is also blossoming as sales of our charitable gift ‘Balls For Africa’ do well in the Christmas period.
Ball donations
Alive & Kicking recently published feedback from our ball donation scheme. Over 1000 balls were donated across Kenya and Zambia in 2012 and all ball donation recipients were asked to complete a feedback questionnaire in order for Alive & Kicking to make sure the balls are beneficial. Feedback revealed a number of impressive statistics including an average of 45 children benefit from each ball that is donated, 92% of balls are used for health education purposes and 95% of recipients believe Alive & Kicking balls to be more durable than other balls available on the market which makes them ideal for African terrain. This feedback has cemented the importance of the ball donation component of our work.
A&K Ghana
Hiring has begun at Alive & Kicking’s stitching centre in Accra, Ghana and with assistance from the Centre for Employment of People with Disabilities and Rollaball - an organisation that promotes street football for people who have suffered from Polio, interviews were held and 16 stitchers appointed; a balance of men and women including a number of disabled stitchers. These stitchers have received training from the Stitcher Trainer & Stock Controller from our Kenyan centre and balls will be rolling out of A&K Ghana very soon!
Micah Richards
A&K recently announced Micah Richards as our celebrity ambassador. Micah Richards, the Manchester City football player, will be supporting Alive & Kicking with our Christmas appeal. It is great to have the support of a well-known footballer and will assist with our reach to football fans worldwide. Alive & Kicking believe this will be a great partnership for the future.
