Alive & Kicking has continued to enjoy success throughout 2013, as our stitching centres in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana go from strength to strength. They continue to make over 5,000 balls a month, for sale and donation across several African countries and organise valuable social outreach initiatives.
Business-Charity Partnership Award
Our partnership with John Lewis has achieved a great piece of recognition after picking up the Institute of Fundraising’s ‘2013 Best Business-Charity Partnership Award.’ The award was presented at a ceremony in London and was the culmination of lots of hard work in both the UK and Kenya.
Alive & Kicking balls were on the shelves of a British retailer for the first time as a result of the ‘Balls For Africa’ initiative. The partnership resulted in a major order for A&K Kenya, sustaining employment for 50 stitchers for nearly 2 months, and resulted in thousands of balls being donated across Kenya.
Hendon United SC tournament
Alive & Kicking teamed up with Hendon United Sports Club to run a football tournament in Matangulu, a town in Kenya’s Machakos district. The tournament involved 11 local teams competing in league and knockout games over two days and created a real buzz among the local community.
Kenya turns 50
In December this year, Kenya will celebrate 50 years of independence. To celebrate the occasion, A&K Kenya has launched a limited edition commemorative ball, which is on sale now in Nakumatt stores across Kenya.
British 10k London
A dedicated team of Alive & Kicking runners completed the British 10k London run in July, raising over £4,000 in the process. Lots of hard work and training went into the run and fundraising efforts and the preparation was needed as temperatures rose well over 30 degrees during the run. A huge thank you to all those who took part!
Thank you
A huge thank you to every one who has supported Alive & Kicking so far this year, we look forward to our next update in three months’ time.
