Solving African Youth Issues Totally plans to change for good the status of the economically disadvantaged youth in Uganda through goat rearing. The project targets to benefit a minimum of 60 female and 40 male youth from Kanungu Uganda. Each youth will be given 3 female goats. 5 youth near each other will be given a good male goat for breeding. We shall train the beneficiaries on good goat management practices and assist them in selling off to get sustainable credit in a period of 3 years.
From our recent visit to 10 villages to establish youth groups, we found out that over 70 percent of youth in Kanungu District do not have a sustainable source of income of which over 60% are females. We also found out that some youth are engaged in goat rearing, poultry keeping, rice, banana, coffee, Irish Potato and maize growing. A goat culturally is the respected animal that every family desires to keep. To provide a solution to this problem youth need support to keep goats for income.
Donate a goat to change life of a youth in Uganda will provide a sustainable source of income to 100 poor youth in Kanungu. Each of them will be given 3 female goats and be supported to access good male goats for breeding. After two or three years the youth will have not less than 10 goats for sale because a goat produces thrice every two years and has high chances of twining. When a goat is sold at 180,000ugx and above the youth gets NOT less than 1million Uganda shillings from 6 goats only.
Each beneficiary will be requested to bring back to the organization 2 female kids for redistribution to other needy youth in Kanungu and later other districts to increase number of youth with sustainable income. The organization will also train the beneficiaries and the community to make organic manure and other products from goat waste to put in their coffee and banana plantations, vegetables and other crops. This will increase crop productivity, reduce food insecurity and increase income.
