There are over 1,600 children at Kako, Kiyumba and Ssunga Primary Schools in Uganda who miss out on anything to eat at lunchtime, and many will have had no breakfast, and find it difficult to concentrate and gain an education. Malnutrition affects their health, development and ability to learn. Youth With A Vision seek to provide food for a lunchtime meal-a cup of high protein maize flour and sugar and also work with the schools to establish gardens to sustain the lunch meals for needy children
Available school records indicate that 3 in 5 children in Masaka region of Uganda come from poor financial families, and drop out of school every term and those who stay at school find it difficult to concentrate and gain an education due to malnutrition. Poor children go to school without a breakfast and also miss out on anything to eat at lunchtime. Malnutrition has greatly affected their health, development and ability to learn. This project will affect over 1,600 poor children.
In the short term Youth With A Vision provides high protein maize flour with sugar porridge meal to the starving children at Kako, Kiyumba and Ssunga Primary Schools. And in the long term Youth With A Vision works with school administration to establish food gardens on the available land to facilitate the sustainability of poor children lunch meals.
The project will provide lunch meals - a daily cup of porridge with sugar to 1,600 needy children and allow them to access and stay a school, concentrate and gain an education which will brighten their future. The project will work with schools to establish gardens which will sustain the on-going feeding of all children.
