Matthew 25: Ministries has been actively involved in disaster relief since 1997. In 2017 alone, Matthew 25 responded to Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, California Wildfires, the Earthquake in Mexico, Tornadoes and Flooding in Missouri and Louisiana and Severe Storms throughout the South. More than 132 truckloads of aid (over 2,500,000 pounds) of disaster relief were distributed in 2017. 100% of financial gifts designated for disaster relief are used for the purpose intended
At any moment, a community can be devastated by a disaster. Afterwards, resources are nonexistent and every second may mean the difference between life and death. Disasters create emergencies of such magnitude that the resulting combination of deaths, injuries, illness, and property damage cannot be managed with routine procedures or resources. Survivors can become ill due to lack of food, shelter, contaminated water and sanitation systems, lack of refrigeration and untreated injuries.
Matthew 25: Ministries responds to disasters where coping with the aftermath is beyond the capabilities of the community or surrounding areas. In these circumstances, access to life-saving and life-sustaining supplies is often limited or nonexistent and sanitary conditions deteriorate quickly making an already horrific situation worse. Matthew 25: Ministries provides critical basic necessities and supplies to distribution partners in disaster areas for immediate relief and long-term recovery.
Matthew 25 works with partners who are local to the area - established in the recipient location, aware of the needs and able to get aid to those who need it. Products are evaluated for quality, geographic and cultural appropriateness and sorted by like or similar items. Because Matthew 25 listens to partners and gives partners what they want, their products are always appreciated and useful to the affected community. In 2017, as many as 1,000,000 disaster victims received help from Matthew 25.
