On 9/17, Hurricane Maria produced catastrophic damage across Puerto Rico. Since then, PRRU has provided assistance to several areas of recovery, including medical, psychological, educational and reconstruction. We now want to focus our efforts on the people of Vieques. The funds you provide would be used to offer relief to survivors in Vieques in the form of medical supplies/equipment, medication and by providing workshops for health and psycho-social support.
Vieques is a small island off the main island of PR. Its population, of roughly 9,000 people, feels neglected. To this day, almost 2 years after the passage of Hurricane Maria, they still have no hospital. They have some bare bone clinics with minimal equipment and there are no sub-specialty services. This means people must travel via ferry or plane to the main island to get the bulk of their healthcare. This is difficult and as a result, many patients have died.
With your support we can provide long-term recovery assistance to help residents recuperate and rebuild. Aside from experiencing so much lack in medical supplies and services, they also have a myriad of needs in terms of mental health services and childhood education. All donations to this fund will exclusively pay for medical equipment/supplies, medications, and workshops for health and psycho-social support. A long recovery is ahead.
Through this project, we aim to uplift and empower the residents of Vieques to achieve equitable opportunities. PRRU will provide residents in Vieques with much needed medical supplies and equipment, workshops that foster long-term psycho-social health and support in the wellness arena. By funding this initiative, you are helping with the rebuilding and and reconstruction efforts for this forgotten community that still has so much need.
