The project has started and in the first quarter of the project 10 community based organizations with membership of 150 women have been formed. The membership is also increasing and within this second quarter the membership will increase to 200 women and potentially the project may have more membership of women in the women CBOs. The field team including three female staff members are paying regular visits to the community and are building up the basic skills and knowledge of the CBOs on saving, organizational management and basic concepts of women development and women rights.
The local men and local religious leaders are also supportive and they are providing space for community meetings and also have started allowing their women to participate in the project activities. The project will establish adult literacy and vocational literacy centres in this quarter and the centres will be functioning. The CBOs will also develop their community based development plans for the empowerment of women from the 10 slums of Islamabad including Hansa Colony, J.Salik Colony, Maskeen Colony, Faisal Colony, 66 Quarters, 48 Quarters, 100 Quarters, Allama Iqbal Colony, and Issa Nagri.
