Help us make Slovakia a Great Country

The DobraKrajina team from last years festival

Every year since 2010, Great Country has been participating in Pohoda festival, taking place in Trencin Airport.

Thanks to your donations, we are able to go there again this year to show the people how we are helping different communities throughout Slovakia. Our aim during this festival is to make the crowd aware of the great job carried out by good Slovak NGOs, to get more advocates for this cause.

Thanks to your generosity, this year we chose to try an innovative way to broadcast our projects: VR videos. We spent some time making the videos in order to show how much our target populations need to be help. Therefore, thanks to VR glasses, people will be able to put themselves in the shoes of a homeless man, of an elderly woman, or of a disabled girl.

When we shot those videos, we got even more convinced that we still need to work hard to change the life of homeless people, disabled people, and of all people who might face discrimination and difficulties in their life that would not exist in a better life-environment.

Thanks to your donations, we were able to get the equipment to shoot those videos, and to be present them on this very important event.

But we need your help even more, in order to be able to organize more federative events in the future, and raise awareness about Slovakia´s main issues.

We think that we can only make Slovakia a better country for everyone if we raise awareness about what some people are facing, and why it needs to change.

We will keep you updated about our next achievements, as we are always trying to stay dynamic and to create a common space for the different projects we are supporting. We are trying to manage a lot of activities to create a bond between all the components of Slovak civil society.

The more the people will be aware of the tough challenges we are facing, the more they will be willing to help us go through them.

We are counting on you to support us into the big work we are trying to do.

New projects joined us on Great Country in 2016. New people doing good job in their communities, helping people in need, saving the enviroment and many more.
We are really happy that in such a small country like Slovakia is, there are many good projects with worldwide ambitions.
Thanks to your support, we as a Great Country can continue with our help to these people or NGOs. Thank you again!

I would like to introduce you to some of the new NGOs that joined us on Great Country and also on GlobalGiving under our supervision.

Vceli kRaj: First Pollination Center in Slovakia

Decline of pollinators is a global problem that is recorded in Slovakia as well. The awareness of general public about the importance of pollinators, about the reasons and ways to help pollinators to stop this decline is low. We started to raise awareness about the importance of honey bees and other pollinators through education, experience and adventure at the same time in 2013. At our educational apiary we organize programs for students that can have personal experience with the bees.

Fair-Play Alliance: Watchdogs for politicians

We are a well-known independent civic watchdog keeping a sharp eye on politicians. Corruption and gangsters know no boundaries and using their well-organised global networks they can infect all the world. Give us the power to link various citizen or professional-driven initiatives together to fight corruption more effectively. We will help them to investigate suspicious misconduct cases and try to speak with one strong voice on behalf of the whole community.

Mission of the Young: Hens and seeds for 25 needy families in Slovakia

Our project is aimed at about 25 incomplete families  (mostly young widows with their children) in the Orava region in the north of Slovakia. These families are in social and financial distress because of the death of a loved one. The main goal of the project is to increase their self-sufficiency and decrease their costs of living. We want to support them to take the opportunities they cant reach without our help, like growing vegetables or breeding animal. We also want to help them save money.

You can find these beatiful projects and many more on Great Country. Now they are featured on also, mainly thanks to your contributions.
Thank you again and welcome in Great Country!

The seventh year of the first Slovak crowdfunding platform is over and we would like to thank you for all your support that have led us here.

In 2015 1401 people were helping to finance great projects through - we have collected 113 053,28 € for 62 innovative and hardworking non-for-profit communities of people. Thank you, it would not have been feasible without your support.

This year we again participated in the international Restaurant day festival, we organized the 3rd 24-hour donation marathon that halped to raide more than 12,000 € for participating NGOs or we again joined the challenge ran Tough-guy.

We do what we can to help small NGOs in Slovakia to reach generous people who want to help them with their causes. We constantly innovate our website (this year the big novelty was microsite for auctions) and think about how to campaign for widening the culture of supporting charity. Thank you for allowing us to do so!

Some 200 hearing-impaired children are born every year in Slovakia and up to 95 per cent are born to parents with no hearing impairment. Proper diagnosis and treatment from the first months of their lives would give them a chance not to lag behind their peers.

Since summer we have been campaigning to raise awareness and collect money to help with early diagnosis of hearing impaired children in Slovakia.

Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for giving hearing-impaired children a chance to live an adequate life. But in Slovakia, we are lacking both the experts as well as the technology. Parents have to therefore often travel with their hearing-impaired children to Brno or even Prague to get an early diagnosis. You too can help us collect the money we need to start the First Children’s Audiocentre at the Children’s University Hospital in Bratislava, which will serve everyone in Slovakia. You too can give hearing-impaired children a chance for a better life.

So far we have collected 25% of the resources we need. If you can please help. Here is more information in this article.

Dear supporters and donors,

we are happy to write you some exciting updates about Great country project.

First of all, we are slowly finishing all the development on our website. The latests and the most expected feature that was finished is ist english version. Thanks to our amazing volunteers, students of languages, we are trying to feed our english version of website so that englisgh speakers have a good overview of recent acitivites. Please check it out yourself and please let us know all your feedback and tips for improvements:

In May we organized Restaurant Day, international festival of street food. We helped 13 project, 13 NGOs to organize their 1-day pop-up restaurants, invite people and welcome them in their work places. Hundreds of guests met with interesting people and had a chance to get to know their work better. According to the World Charity Index 2014 Slovakia is still far behind other central european countries when it comes to the pro-social behaviour. We try to sensitize people by creating the opportunities for being moved or inspired to engage in giving, helping, volunteering. Restaurant Day was such an opportunity and we were able to organize it in thanks to your support. THANK YOU!

Another exciting news is Mari Kuraishi herself. Cofounder fo GlobalGiving will come to Slovakia in late October this year and she will have a inspiring presentation for our NGOs about crowdfunding. We are very very excited and we hope to inspire small organizations we are working with to embrace the power of crowd (enjoy Mari talking about it here).

And, yes, we are in a pre-campaign rush. 24-hours giving marathon is in less then 2 months. If you can, please support us, we are trying to collect matching funds for participating NGOs.
