Summer 2010
By Renee Hill | Communications Specialist
As summer comes to a close and students go back to school we can look back over the last few months. Several of our students participated in the DC Summer Youth Employment Program and worked in different internships around the city. The DC Summer Youth Employment Program places students in jobs all over DC in varying fields such as Arts, Design and Media; Building and Grounds Maintenance; Government; Community and Social Services; Construction Trades; Education, Training and Library Science; Health Care Support; Hospitality and Tourism; Office and Administration Support; and Sports and Physical Education.
We look forward to the 2010-2011 school year and all that we can accomplish this year!

Kids at Career Building Workshop
Coaching for College has completed a successful fall semester of Saturday mentoring sessions and monthly career building workshops. Special events included a Wizards game, a Capitals game, and performances and discussion with a local jazz pianist. Coaching for College has also teamed with George Washington University to provide weekly health and wellness sessions for female students enrolled in the Coaching for College program.
In October Coaching for College celebrated 10 years of supporting students and encouraging success through academic achievement. Our two most impactful speakers at the event were Melondie Jackson and Jalesa Steward, two Coaching for College alumna currently in college. Click below to see a video of Jalesa with her coach, Karen Evans.
As we start the Spring 2010 semester, Coaching for College is working to identify and fund summer opportunities for our students that will keep kids engaged while inspiring their future career goals.
