Over 70.000 children are being raised in Russian orphanages. Most of them do not get the opportunities to critically assess and establish themselves, which makes it very hard for them to become successful later in life. With the HIV epidemic in Russia showing the highest growth rate in the world, and over 10.000 girls under the age of 15 getting pregnant every year, it is crucial for the vulnerable youth to be equipped to make responsible decisions regarding their sexual health.
The program will be delivered by young professional trainers under the supervision and support of adults. The project will use the dance4life 4-step approach - Inspire, Educate, Activate, Celebrate - to build the knowledge, confidence and personal leadership skills of 100 young orphans, enabling them to make informed and empowered decisions about their sexual health. Moreover, they will be able to articulate their needs and have more autonomy and decision making power for their future.
The 100 empowered orphans will be motivated to spread their knowledge to peers by actively taking part in raising awareness activities. At least 5000 young people will be reached indirectly further via the social networks with essential information on sexual health. And they will be able to reach out to hundreds of others in their circle of influence - peers, parents, community - and then they too will be able to break out of barriers that hold them back from becoming leaders of their own lives.
