Ennayiram Region is one of the most backward region in Villupuram district with high level of vulnerable population including small/marginal farmers and landless agriculture coolies who are dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. The project aims at substantially increasing the number of milch animals in Ennayiram Region, with opportunities for realizing increased incomes for the project participants through improved animal husbandry practices and enhanced access to services and market.
Majority of the women are landless agricultural labourers who do not have regular means of income to support their households. Their monthly income is very meager as agricultural related occupation is seasonal and the rest of the days they work as daily wage construction labourers which provides around Rs.150 to 200 a day. On an average family monthly income is around Rs. 4.000.
Enhancing access to financial services for purchase of milch animals through linkages with banks. About 100 members will gain to access to financial services to purchase animals Establishment of feed shops, fodder plots and azolla units at house backyard would be strengthened and to secure access to technical services around animal care - at least 5 para-vets trained in the villages and thereby identified 5 paravets and 100 beneficiaries would earn a regular income of 7500/- per month.
Owning of milch animals enhance the confidence of level of resource poor farmers The assets created is increased the income of the targeted families in the villages. Availability of veterinary services within the village assisted them to protect the animals from any potential disease Animal insurance would help the farmer's to mitigate the risk of sudden death or loss of animal.
