The cyclone idai that again hit the southern Africa has affected again Malawi: heavy rainfall, wind and hales, stones that destroys the homes for 600 families, 3000 homes filled with water and properties damaged. 30 people confirmed dead, about 300 people seriously injured and 128 people are missing. This catastrophy occurs on 16 March, 2019.
The poverty that covers 80% of Malawians living in the rural areas made many people build huts and others build houses that can not stand to heavy rains. Hence the heavy and 6 hours rainfall, hales and heavy wind that happens at the same time has damaged many homes, properties and peoples lives. The most challenge is to provide relief to these victims of floods and damages recovery.
This project will help currently 3000 homes. This project will cover them with food, safe water. First aid, clothes, blankets and provide a home. 2000 families will get emergency support through this project, tents, buckets, plastic sheets, buckets, blankets and clothes. We expect to help 3700 people all victims of this catastrophes.
As a Community Based Organisation we encourages community development work participation and it is the same community that are suffering this catastrophes and community development can not progress as people were moved from their places, homes and their properties, food are damaged. It is until this problem is solved through this project when people will be able to attend development work within the community.
