Counting our Pennies for Peace
With your support PAST&E is continuing in our mission to improve the lives of at-risk youth in Portland, Oregon, USA. Here are a few updates from our program:
Pennies for Peace
Our scholar athletes are participating in Pennies for Peace, a service-learning program designed to broaden our scholar athletes' cultural horizons while teaching them about their capacities as philanthropists - one penny at a time! How can a penny bring peace? In the villages of Pakistan and Afghanistan, a penny can buy a pencil, start and education, and transform a life.
Music Club Members Perform at Artichoke Music
Jnauary 30th, members of the PAST&E Music club performed "If I Had a Hammer" at Artichoke Music at a tribute honoring the life of Pete Seeger. Artichoke Music is a non-profit organization supporting community music in Portland. The PAST&E performers played to a full-house. Over 20 performers offered their tributes through song, poetry or stories about the great champion of social justice. Our scholar athletes were among those offering tributes to a great life.
Scholar Athletes Gear Up for Spring JTT
This Spring, 41 PAST&E scholar athletes, representing five teams, will participate in Junior Team Tennis. JTT is a United States Tennis Assocation league that allows players of all levels to experience match play in a fun and rewarding team enviornment. During the JTT season our teams will travel to local clubs and tennis facilites meeting and competing with players across Greater Portland. Our teams are working hard on the court to prepare for match play starting March 7th!
