Spot On: Authors Taylor, Ariel, Ristom and Natisha
With your support PAST&E is continuing in our mission to improve the lives of at-risk youth in Portland, Oregon, USA. Here are a few updates from our program:
Spot On: Cheetahs in Print
The Cheetahs (our class for scholar athletes grade 5-7) spent the winter studying journalism and writing, producing a newsletter of short stories and essays. This editions authors include Taylor, Ariel, Ristom, and Natisha, pictured above. You can read their newsletter here. We may have some Hemingways in our midst!
A Beautiful Day for a Parade
Our scholar athletes and their families participated in the St. Johns Parade, our neighborhood parade with the theme, "Vintage Family Fun"! We had a great time and even won an award for our Peace Theme! Check out the video featuring our scholar athletes dancing their way through the parade route!
PAST&E Summer Program "Globetrotting Around the World– Searching for Peacemakers"
Since 2009, Portland After-School Tennis & Education at St. Johns Racquet Center (PAST&E) has delivered its nine-week tuition-free "Serving Up Success" Summer Program to more than 1000 at-risk children in North Portland's St. Johns neighborhood. Your support continues to help eliminate unsupervised time while parents work, when kids are vulnerable to the dangers of crime and gang activity in their neighborhoods. It also helps to prevent summer learning loss, which dramatically impacts low-income families.
Our nine-week summer program, "Globetrotting Around the World– Searching for Peacemakers" is filled with full days of writing, math, history, geography, art, science, fitness, tennis, and more. Our rigorous program keeps at-risk kids academically engaged and physically fit. The program also provides access to free, nutritious meals, field trips, support for families and "accessible and affordable" sanctioned USTA Rookie Junior Tennis Tournaments at St. Johns Racquet Center (SJRC).
Thank you for your continued support!
