We are working on creating data-driven solutions for some of LGBT people's biggest challenges in Tanzania. The project will help humanize data, find hidden stories, and map ways to communicate more effectively with the LGBT community and stakeholders. This project will offer free training to LGBT activists on data collection, data cleaning and analysis, data visualization, data storytelling and data advocacy for LGBT rights
There is little information about the sufferings and challenges faced by the LGBT+ community in Tanzania; LGBT+ human rights activists find it difficult to advocate for positive change due lack enough data. Likewise, there are reports of LGBT individuals facing harassment from law enforcement officials who use criminal charges as means of obtaining bribes. Societal discrimination and a lack of understanding of LGBT people also leads to diminished access to public services.
Through training and providing support to LGBT+ rights activists all over the country to harness the power of data to forge real change and lasting impact, by sharpening their data skills through in-person training in data collection, analysis, visualization and storytelling. Advocates will be equipped with skills to use data and storytelling to advocate for LGBT people in Tanzania
At the end of the project there will be 33 skilled activists with the expertise of shaping and producing impactful data-driven projects that will advocate for LGBT+ rights and bring positive change
