Greetings,
Over the last 8 years, WGEF has provided over 3600 women the opportunity to learn to read and write. In addition to literacy skills, our program includes team building and lifestyle skills, enabling women to develop in meaningful and relevant ways.
On International Women's Day in March, WGEF presented 303 women with certificates of accomplishment during a graduation ceremony, included in the IWD celebration. Below is a description:
WGEF PASSES OUT 303 WOMEN WHO COPMPLETED ADULT LITERACY TRAINING IN OMORO DISTRICT
“I thank WGEF for opening the minds of women from Lalogi Sub county. Our minds were CLOSSED like soda which is not open. Now WE can share freely our views, and we no longer fear to talk in Public.”
Said Paska ---Adult Learner Participant.
Today the headquarter of Omoro District in Northern Uganda was covered with excitement and joy as 303 women marched and assembled at the venue for their graduation, every woman excited to tell her story of completing her 2year study in adult literacy learning. More impotently, majority shared how the training has impacted their lives, opened opportunities, improved their social communication, reduced domestic violence and renewed their commitment to support their children to attain education.
Participants in WGEF’s Adult learning program were divided into groups, provided with learning materials and breakfast. They attended classes twice a week for 16 months. The program used trained literacy instructors from the Government and follows the FAL (Functional Adult Learning) curriculum approved by the Government of Uganda.
Today 6th March 2018 WGEF passed out a total of 303 Women who completed their 2year adult literacy learning course from 3 learning center in Lalogi, Odek and Koro sub counties located in Omoro District. All trainees were awarded certificates signed by WGEF and the education department from Omoro Local Government.
By providing women with the opportunity to learn how to read and write, the Literacy learning has opened up numerous opportunities for women that would not otherwise be possible. The training has improved social communication for learners working in markets, allowing them to communicate with their customers more effectively.
As we join the rest of the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD) its possible with education women can press for progress.
