When a woman learns to read and write, her whole world opens up! Many of our clients are formerly abducted child soldiers, victims of sexual terrorism and horrific violence and poverty, but are now recovering and rebuildng their lives. Provide literacy education for 190 women for eight months in post conflict northern Uganda thru WGEF's Credit Plus program, creating a brighter, more secure future!
People of northern Uganda are recovering from a 20+ year brutal insurgency, where for over a decade 1.5+ million people lived in IDP camps, facing violence, poverty and hopelessness. WGEF's Credit Plus program provides microcredit loans & literacy training to our clients, many of whom are formerly abducted persons, child soldiers, sex slaves, all having suffered unimaginable violence, many missed the opportunity to receive a basic education. This project offers literacy to 190 clients!
This project provides an 8 month literacy training, yearly, creating the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to improve livelihoods, build self esteem & empower women; includes: trained instructors, supplies, child care, lunch & sisterhood.
Basic literacy and primary school education are universally recognized as being a human right; our clients, because of the conflict, were unable to attain basic reading and writing skills, our program focuses on building skills and empowering women. Literacy and basic education offers women new opportunities, self esteem and leadership skills; it has a positive impact on her entire family.
This project has provided additional documentation in a Microsoft Word file (projdoc.doc).
