Community Initiatives for Biodiversity Conservation is very happy to share with you the progress being made by Create Income for 100 Displaced Batwa in Uganda Project. This is a bee keeping project for livelihood transformation among the Batwa in Uganda. As you may know this is second report from the field. CIBIC is graced to say that your commitment to stand with her is providing greater hope and opportunity for the less fortunate pygmies to have a new start in life. As CIBIC, it could not be possible to contribute much to these people but with your support, these achievements are made possible.
In 2015 your support enabled CIBIC to train and support over 50 people in bee keeping. Your support also left over 16 pygmies both men and women with bee hives, of these 75% have been colonized and in well cared for apiaries. In this new project, month of august 2016 CIBIC will definitely start honey harvesting; our focus is on training people on Job through apprenticeship programme. CIBIC is focusing much in supporting more women in bee keeping. More 15 people will receive new modern bee hives, bee suits smokers, and hive tools.
Our next plan is supporting our apprentices to start carpentry workshops specializing in making their groups hives sell to others and make money. This is a growing desire from apprentices like Mr. Justus who says “when I finish this training, I must work by all means and start my own workshop” So we plan to buy for them workshop tools like hand planes, handsaws, and tool boxes for them. CIBIC must raise money to buy honey from the beekeepers, help in buying honey, air tight buckets, jars, and labels and do the selling, also to continue supporting bee keepers with new hives.
