Thank you for your donations which are supporting our running costs in 2021!

All branches of Prithipura Communities remain closed to visitors and our food and supplies continue to be delivered. COVID-19 remains a risk all over Sri Lanka as with most of the world but we are pleased that a vaccination programme has now started in Sri Lanka and hope that we will have access to this soon.

In the meantime, we continue with our activities at the Infants Home, our school and our 2 farms.

Children and young people at the Infants Home are enjoying online speech and language therapy as our therapist is not able to visit at the moment.  With support from Priyanka, our early years teacher, those participating are enjoying using technology new to them to access this.

The farms continue to develop their agricultural activities. The growing of aloe vera, a new initiative at Anandapura Farm, has been particularly successful.  A multitude of vegetables continues to be produced at Asokapura Farm including tomatoes, different varieties of beans, radishes, chillies, pumpkin, aubergine, pineapple and lemongrass!

50 children at Cotagala School remained on-site throughout the pandemic whilst others who have links with their families stayed with them.  Since January, all the students have returned and school activities are back to usual.

Since the launch of our campaign to raise funds for 2021 in December 2020, we have raised $11,500 via the GlobalGiving platform.

What does this fund?

  • Nearly 50 days of meals – breakfast, lunch, dinner as well as morning and afternoon tea – for 100 children and adults with disabilities living at the Infants Home OR
  • The basic annual salaries of 10 members of our staff team – carers, teachers and farm workers OR
  • 70% of monthly food costs for 240 children and adults with disabilities living across our 4 locations OR
  • Over 7 months of breakfast for 120 children and adults with disabilities living at Cotagala School and Asokapura Farm.

Special thanks to our 16 monthly donors whose support will continue to sustain us throughout 2021.  You can find out more about setting up a monthly donation here:

2020 has been a challenging year for us all but your support has quite literally kept us going! Your contribution has helped us cover our costs for this year and we are so grateful for all your help.

Current cases of COVID-19 are rising again in Sri Lanka. Local lockdowns are in place to try and curb the spread and all branches of Prithipura Communities remain on lockdown to protect the vulnerable. Our usual sources of funding increased for a while but not to their usual levels and with restricted movement again in Sri Lanka, we have again seen a decrease.

All the children and adults with disabilities that live with us remain safe and well and we continue to do all we can to protect them but also ensure growth and development with stimulating activities.

With the current resurgences of COVID-19 all over the world, including in Sri Lanka, we are planning for a challenging year in 2021. As a result, we are re- launching our COVID-19 appeal in order to raise funds to cover costs for 2021.

The project launches on Tuesday 1st December – GIVING TUESDAY. Thanks to GlobalGiving’s #MoveAMillion incentive fund, the more you give on this day, the larger share we win out of $1 million USD in bonus funds.

If you have set up a monthly donation, you don’t have to do anything. Your donation will automatically transfer to our 2021 project.

Thank you again for all your support – stay safe and stay well!

Firstly, a sincere thank you for your support at this difficult time. When we launched our campaign for support during the COVID-19 pandemic, we were aware that the whole world was in crisis and that many would not be in a position to donate. We have therefore been truly overwhelmed by the show of support, which has kept 240 children and adults with disabilities healthy, safe and well-fed during this difficult time

To date, we have raised over $10,000 dollars via our GlobalGiving COVID-19 appeal which has provided lunch for all 240 children and adults with disabilities who live with us for 2 months.

We are fortunate that there has been a low incidence of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka to date and hope that this continues. Sri Lanka relaxed island-wide lockdown restrictions in June but at the moment all 4 branches of Prithipura Communities remain in isolation, as we feel that it is important to continue to shield the vulnerable people who live with us as much as we can. As you will likely be aware, many of those who live with us have pre-existing health conditions such as respiratory problems. This means that they would be at high risk if they were infected with COVID-19. We are also aware that if there was an incidence of COVID-19 in our community, it would be a huge challenge to limit the spread of this, although we have plans and provision in place should this happen.

The period of lockdown has been unusual for us all but there has been plenty of activity to keep everyone busy, stimulated and entertained. At the Infants Home, many of the children and adults living there have enjoyed sunny mornings in our swimming pool. At Cotagala School, the residents have been busy growing fruit and vegetables and have also installed a ‘home cinema’. The farms also continue with their agricultural activities.

We’ve sung songs, celebrated birthdays and also observed important religious festivals. Our food and other essentials continue to be delivered and we observe safe protocol with any external contact. We are fortunate that many of our staff live in and as such the care and support that is provided has not been unduly affected.

Although there has been a slight increase in local donations since Sri Lanka lifted curfew restrictions, our usual local funding sources remain low and as such we will continue to look for alternative sources of funding in the coming months.

So far, we have weathered the storm both health-wise and financially and we remain ever thankful for this.

If you would like to further support us in the coming months, please do consider a small recurring donation:
