The funds received will help us build a nursery, which would drastically improve the odds of surviving of the injured babies we receive. We would rescue and rehabilitate more animals and therefore be more efficient in our missions, especially as all the species that we welcome will be concerned by this project. Due to the absence of nursery, we have not been able to welcome all the injured/vulnerable baby animals in these past years.
Most animals arrive at the center at a very young age and must reach a certain level of maturity before being put in an enclosure with others to form a group. Without a nursery, we for example had to keep a baby howler monkey, who was too young and vulnerable to be put in the enclosure, in the house of the director. By doing so, he is getting used to being with humans which could become a problem when he is put with other monkeys.
It would help us to provide the new-born we have at the center or the injured / vulnerable babies we receive to be able to grow up in ideal conditions and therefore to be ready for their release in their natural habitat as soon as it is possible. We would also be able to welcome more baby animals.
Amazon Shelter welcomes 50 animals at the moment. It is impossible for us to welcome more if we want them to grow up in ideal conditions. The nursery will help us extend our welcoming capacity.
