June Project Update

Thank you to all of you who are helping to conserve and restore Tanzania's rainforests! Someone commented to me just this past week that they didn't know that rainforests even existed in Africa, which sadly is something we hear all too often at ARC. Not only do rainforests exist in Africa, they are among the oldest and most biologically diverse forests in the world! Conservation International recently named both the coastal forests of East Africa and the Eastern Afromontane (the geographic feature that is home to the Eastern Arc mountains) to its list of “ten most threatened forest hotspots” (#8 and #10 respectively). Forests on this list have lost 90 percent or more of their original habitat and each is home to at least 1,500 plant species found nowhere else in the world. So a sincere thank you to each of you for recognizing the import value of these forests through your support of ARC!

We have launched a couple of new partnerships in the past months, including those with the Earth Day Network's A Billion Acts of Green campaign (to plant 1 million trees over the next two years) and TckTckTck's Global Campaign for Climate Action (GCCA). We are excited to be a part of the ongoing discussion on global climate change and create solutions that help both local people and the environment. Funds raised through this GlobalGiving project are going directly to the the field to support environmental education and tree planting with primary schools.

A reminder that GlobalGiving’s Bonus Day is on Wednesday, June 15th. GlobalGiving will be matching all donations at 30% up to $1,000 per donor per project while funds last! We hope you will help us reach our goal (less than $2,500 to go!) by making a donation to this project on Bonus Day.
