Challenge

Unsustainable practices such as hunting, bush burning, indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal production and fuel wood, illegal chain saw operations for timber production has rendered the unique mountain ecosystem in the Santrokofi Traditional Area almost into a desert. All the mountain tops have been removed causing serious erosion on the slopes of the mountain.

Solution

The project will undertake tree planting exercises and enviromental education campaign to restore the unique mountain ecosystem that has been depleted as a result of unregulated exploitation of natural resources to satisfy socio-economic needs

Long-Term Impact

Appropriate farming methods will be adopted by farmers in the project area and general environmental awareness level will be raised to restore the depleted forests.
