In Chintsa East most residents cannot afford a device to access the internet. This makes finding and applying for a job, accessing online courses, communicating via email, using the internet for leisure and online services - impossible. Over 2,500 residents live without internet access every day. The Chintsa East Community Learning Centre enable people to be connected, so that they can take control of their economic and educational futures.
Our container based, community located lab will employ and train local youth to train others in how to use the internet for every day uses, for accessing education opportunities, for job seeking and applications, for leisure, for communication and for online services, like online banking. Employing and training locals means that knowledge and skills stay in the community, are transferred to others, and that the community takes ownership of the lab.
Knowledge is power. Access to the internet enables people living under the poverty line to gain skills, be connected and be entertained at the lowest possible cost. Supporting people to gain knowledge and information means greater power, a sense of hope, putting you in control, regardless of how much you earn. We know that people in our community are strong, independent and proud. We want our community to get connected, gain knowledge. To find their power and their voice.
