The people of Gaza have less than 6 hours of electricity per day. They have decided to take things into their own hands, mobilize the community, plan a community solar energy project and raise funds for its implementation. Solar energy will provide Gazans with a reliable and sustainable source of energy that will supply the demand for electricity, helping to improve the quality of life on all levels. This is a project designed by the community and for the community.
Gaza is suffering from a tremendous energy shortage and a bleak prospect of fulfilling the shortage through conventional, fossil fuel energy. Too many political constraints and complications involving too many stakeholders make solving the problem increasingly difficult. 6 hours of power a day. This affects food storage and preparation, education and preparing homework, family life, employment, entertainment, communication, industry and nearly every other walk of life.
This project will mobilize the community to support the implementation of solar energy projects that can give an immediate response the the dire energy shortage in the Gaza Strip. Funds raised will also serve to develop a plan for 1MW solar community project. For this it is necessary to hire professionals to build a professional implementation plan. We will also use the funds to attend a 3 day global renewable energy summit to raise $1.5 million for the to fund the full project of 1MW.
Solar panels last 20 years or more. The more panels the community will install the more power it will have. This will also serve as a means of providing employment for Gazans and to lay the foundation for Gaza becoming a sustainable and renewable economy. With the devastation that was suffered in Gaza and the continued blockade and lack of horizon, building a sustainable source of clean energy can serve as a catalyst for a new positive green economy & example of sustainable development in Gaza.
