The Community Livelihoods and Empowerment Project will focus and target 1000 households in one Traditional Authority of Mwansambo in Nkhotakota district. These households currently do not have food of their own for the rest of the year. they do not have enough income earning opportunities for them to have enough cash to buy food of their own and they lack capacity to advocate for better services of their own.
Currently more than 1000 households are in dire poverty in Nkhota kota as indicated by unavailability of food to take them throughout the year as well as inadequate sources of income earning opportunities to provide for their needs. Despite efforts by other non state actors to support the people with the same, there are several households that have not yet been reached with the support and hence they still live in dire poverty.
The project will provide start up seeds to all the 1000 targeted households to produce food of their own. The people will also be taught on best practices that will enable them produce enough food for their own. The project will also organize women in saving groups in order for them to raise money to be sued for their smallscale businesses.
people will have enough seed to be passed on to their fellow farmers to produce more food. The women doing businesses will generate profits that will be used to buy food as well as assets that will cushion them in even of any eventuality and hence sustaining their livelihoods.
