This proposal is seeking additional resources for Xintu teams in four city to mobilize community resources for fall prevention in China. Xintu is planning to conduct a project which is going to enter at least 10000 families in 12 communities of Shanghai, Beijing, Qingdao, and Chengdu where Xintu is runing community facilities. About a third of older people aged over 65 living in the community fall each year. Falls are the leading cause of serious accidental injury (resulting in admission to hospital for four or more days) amongst people aged 65 and over. Falls are responsible for more than half of hospital admissions resulting from accidental injuries, in particular hip-fractures. Globally, the prevention and management of falls in older people has become a key public health priority.

Xintu is always believing that community has the resources and ideas to solve their own problem as sufficient community mobilzation and participation is critical for sustainbility. Xintu is runing of community facilities, supporting community groups, and training of volunteers which is a system that can support family for a healthy and independent life at home. This proposal is to explore sustainable fall prevention models in four major cities of China.

Long-Term Impact

Xintu is expecting to establish a community mobilization mechanism for fall prevention with a trained team in each city for running at least one community facility and enter at least 10,000 families in four cities. Xintu expect a reduction of falls and fall related injures among seniors by 50% in urban community, 40% in migrant community and 30% in rural community. Xintu team is expect to mobilizing local resources to cover the fall prevention intervention in the community.
