YUVA has Identified cases of Mental illness and epilepsy among children which can be both a cause and a consequence of poverty and ill-health, often interfering in substantial ways with the ability of affected people to function in families and society. Improper coal mining practices have led to uncontrolled dumping of overburden (rock and soil extracted while mining) and mine tailings. During monsoons, this exposed earth flows into the river, increasing suspended solid and heavy metal load in the water, silting the dams and reservoirs. The contaminated sources of drinking water is resulting rise in the number of cases of mental sickness among children in the same coal mining areas.
YUVA would provide medical treatment and consultancy followed by counselling and home based care strategies for the targetted children to their parents for the case management. YUVA has built a unique and effective model for recovery and sustained good mental health. The model uses meaningful work and community support, as well as treatment to help improve lives. Our approach to treatment includes providing medication and psychosocial support.
The Long Term effects of the Project :- 79 children identified with mental illness would be cured completely to contribute towards their life who otherwise would have not survived. People would get awareness on the fact that mental illness and epilepsy can be treated successfully. Early detection of such cases would be done so as to ensure early treatment and cure
