This year, Peru revised its National Biodiversity Strategy to improve conservation initiatives and encourage the sustainable use of natural resources. A significant focus of this strategy is the active involvement of Indigenous women, who are crucial to biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices. By acknowledging their expertise and leadership, the strategy aims to empower women by incorporating their viewpoints into decision-making. This inclusive approach not only enhances conservation efforts but also promotes social equity, ensuring that Indigenous communities lead the way in safeguarding Peru's rich biodiversity while reaping the benefits of its sustainable management.
I was part of the NGO delegation and provided insight from my expertise gained through CDA's 5 environment-fragility-peace nexus case studies.
